Mick and Adam

I ran 33 miles in torrential rain and gale force winds… I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Retired police officer, Mick, and his friend Adam completed an ultra marathon raising an incredible £2,650 for our hospice care.

Mick and Adam ran in memory of Mick’s sister Jackie, a senior health care worker on the children’s ward at Gloucester Royal Hospital, who died in April 2024. “Longfield took an active part in caring for Jackie at home in her last months, alongside Jackie’s husband Pete. The care and kindness they showed was phenomenal,” he said.

Mick describes being with his sister a week before she died. “The Longfield team had just arrived and immediately sensed this was a difficult day for Jackie,” says Mick. “They gave her a big reassuring hug and said ‘We are going to take the best care of you’. And they really did.”

Recalling the day of the race, Mick said: “I slipped in the mud several times, then I’d get Jackie in my mind and hear her saying ‘go on Mick, keep going’. I hope I did her proud.”
