We’re incredibly lucky to have over 400 committed volunteers who work across every department at Longfield, including the brilliant Lucy. Lucy tells us what it is about volunteering at Longfield that she values so much.
Why did you decide to become a volunteer?
I love volunteering and the sense of purpose it can bring to life. I had a window of opportunity between jobs and I wanted to seize this break from the screen to come together with people, in person again and to explore a different, caring environment for helping others.
What is your motivation for volunteering at Longfield?
Longfield is right on the doorstep so it’s lovely to be able to support the local community and the cause is very close to my heart. As soon as I walked through the door, I was really touched by the sense of tranquillity and lightness that radiates out. I knew immediately that this is where I wanted to offer my time and help.
What does your volunteer role involve?
My volunteer role involves assisting the Wellbeing team with the delivery of weekly Move More, Therapeutic Art and Relaxation group sessions; welcoming, supporting and encouraging attendees’ participation. I have also helped the Marketing team by marshalling at the Run the Rainbow fundraising event and with publicity for the Festive Fire Walk.
