Longfield Community Hospice Statement on Assisted Dying

At Longfield Community Hospice, our mission is to support patients to live as well as they can, for as long as they can. We are aware of the ongoing discussions surrounding Assisted Dying. We recognise the important consequence of the discussion is enabling people to speak about death and dying.

However, our focus remains on providing compassionate end of life and palliative care to those living locally.

Everyone should be able to access high quality palliative and end of life care, no matter who they are, where they are, or why they are ill. Nobody should ever feel they have to make the choice to have an assisted death because of a real or imagined fear of not receiving the care and support they need.

We firmly believe that whatever decisions are being made around assisted dying, there needs to be fair funding and equitable provision of palliative and end of life care across the UK. –  Longfield Community Hospice
