Community group raises over £30,000 for local hospice
8 July 2024
When friends Anne Roberts and Di Merrett from Frampton on Severn got together in 2014 to put on a fundraiser for Longfield Community Hospice, they had no idea where it would lead. Fast forward ten years, and Longfield’s Severnside Supporter Group has raised over £30,000 for the community hospice. That’s enough to fund over 500 hours of hospice care in the home, delivered by the team’s specialist nurses and healthcare assistants.
Ann Roberts, a founding member of Severnside Supporter Group said:
“In total, we’ve raised £31,267 to date. It’s an amazing amount for a small, rural community like ourselves. We host coffee mornings and cake sales and we have a lot of support from villagers knitting novelty items like Christmas puddings filled with chocolates that we sell at Christmas fetes! We all know someone who has been cared for by Longfield – it’s a very special charity and we’re proud to have raised so much money to help.”
Kirsty Murray, Longfield’s Senior Fundraising Manager, said:
“As a charity, Longfield wouldn’t exist without amazing supporters. Each year, we need to raise 85% of the money needed to fund our hospice care – which is provided free of charge to local people. Severnside Supporter Group is a shining example of the difference a group of committed supporters can make. Thank you, on behalf of everyone at Longfield, and the families we support.”
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” Margaret Mead.
