Local puppet designer and model maker to share behind-the-scenes stories from a remarkable career
Get ready for an entertaining and insightful evening with model maker and Stroud local, Steve Allen. Tickets are available now for a one-off special edition of his show ‘Me, Models and Mayhem’ on Friday 9 October 2026, 7:30-9:30pm, at Stroud Brewery. All proceeds will go to Longfield Hospice in Minchinhampton – a charity close to Steve’s heart as it has supported members of his family.
On the night, Steve will draw on an extraordinary career in television and film, sharing the story of his life in the creative industry. This includes creating merchandise designs and special display models for Star Wars, and merchandise and design concepts for the The Jim Henson Company on the pre-production stage of Labyrinth. After becoming a freelance designer in 1985, Steve also worked on Doctor Who merchandise and toys.
Steve will bring along a selection of well-known models, puppets and props to the event, giving audience members the chance to see these creations up close and hear the stories behind them.
Steve’s journey from a painfully shy child to a successful career in the creative industries is a remarkable one. His career has spanned work with the BBC, Hornby, and 20th Century Fox. Along the way, he has encountered extraordinary people, projects and challenges – and he has plenty of behind-the-scenes stories to share.
While Steve has enjoyed what many would consider a dream career, it has not always been easy. Years of demanding deadlines and pressure have taken their toll, and Steve will talk openly about being diagnosed with stress disorder.
Please note, Me, Models and Mayhem is not suitable for anyone under 14 years old.
