Donating Pre-Loved Furniture

Have pre-loved furniture and working electrical items you no longer need? Let us take them off your hands—and give them a second life in support of hospice care across Gloucestershire.

If you’re only donating smaller items, please drop them off at your nearest Longfield shop or bring them to our STROUD – FURNITURE SHOP & DONATION HUB.

For large items, you can request a free furniture collection using the form at the bottom of this page. We collect within a 15 mile radius of the furniture shop.

Once we receive your request, a member of our team will be in touch to discuss collection.

What we can collect

This service is primarily for collecting large furniture and electrical appliances. Smaller items (such as clothing, books, toys, or homeware), can be donated at your local Longfield Shop.

Before You Book

To ensure the safety of our team and the smooth collection of your donated items, please note the following:

• Ground Floor Only: For health and safety reasons, we can only collect items from the ground floor of your property. Unfortunately, we are unable to collect from upper floors, basements, or lofts.
• Safe removal: Items must be removable from the property without causing damage. Drivers cannot remove doors or windows to gain access.
• Size considerations: Large items must fit through doorways, hallways, and staircases. If not, they should be dismantled before collection.
• No disassembly service: Charity collection teams do not dismantle furniture on-site.
• Vehicle Access: We require clear and safe access for a Luton van (similar in size to a food delivery or Amazon van). Please ensure:
  • There is sufficient space to park and manoeuvre the vehicle.
  • No height, width, or turning restrictions that would prevent access.
  • Driveways, roads, or paths are free from obstructions.

To make sure your donation helps us raise vital funds, items must be in good, saleable condition and meet legal and safety standards.

This includes:

• Items that are damaged, stained, or incomplete
• Upholstered furniture without the required fire safety labels
• Items that do not meet our quality standards

Unfortunately, disposing of unsellable items costs us money—resources that could otherwise go directly toward supporting patient care and vital services. We kindly ask that all donations be clean, complete, and in good condition.

Respecting Our Team

Our collection team works hard to serve the community with care and professionalism. If they are unable to accept an item, it’s because it does not meet our safety or resale standards. We kindly ask for your understanding and respect in these situations — they are following essential guidelines to protect everyone involved.

Upholstered Furniture

By law, all upholstered furniture (like sofas, armchairs, or padded chairs) must have a valid fire safety label attached.
Please double-check your items before booking to ensure:

• The fabric is intact with no damage or excessive wear
• There is a fire safety label attached to the furniture

General Condition

All items must:

• Be complete, with no missing parts (e.g. all drawers in a chest of drawers)
• Be clean and in good condition (no large stains, damage, or strong odours)
• Work properly (for electrical items) Replace with Be in full working order

Items We’re Unable to Accept:

For health, safety, or resale reasons, we cannot accept the following:

• Mattresses or beds
• Large heavy-duty units (display cabinets, sideboards)
• Electric Armchairs 
• Hard-wired electric heaters
• Cookers
• Cots, prams, or other baby items
• Upholstered items without a valid fire label
• Items made from ivory or real fur
• Used personal items (e.g. toiletries, bedding)
• Safety equipment (e.g. helmets, harnesses)
• Hazardous liquids, flammables, or weapons
• Televisions & Computer Monitors

Please note: We kindly ask that furniture donations be limited to a manageable quantity per collection – This helps us see if we have the right transport, space, and team available to safely and efficiently collect your items.
